The Paradise Sports Charity Golf Classic benefits research efforts of USF Health Colon and Rectal Surgery, a division that has grown and gained national stature under the direction of colorectal surgeon Jorge Marcet, MD, FACS.
Dr. Marcet's clinical research focuses on developing new ways to reduce the complications of colorectal cancer treatments and improve cure rates. He has helped USF Health become one of the leading sites in the country for ongoing national clinical trials investigating minimally- invasive approaches to colorectal cancer surgery. His surgery work is performed at Tampa General Hospital where the Colon and Rectal Disorders Program has been certified as a Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation. This is the first Colorectal Surgery Program in the nation to have this distinction. Dr Marcet's team has presented research papers and lectured at medical conferences internationally.
The Paradise Sports Charity Golf Classic is being held during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month to raise community awareness about the importance of cancer screenings.
